Academic Eligibility

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

Updated information coming soon…

John Glenn has very high expectations for student athletes’ performance in the classroom.  All student athletes must meet both initial and continuing eligibility according to district guidelines to be able to participate in interscholastic athletics.

All incoming (first time) ninth graders are immediately eligible for participation in the athletic program.

  • Enrollment as full-time student at John Glenn High School or virtual
  • Passing 66% of all classes. Four out of Six classes (4/6) or Five out of Seven (5/7)

  • Current Semester Eligibility—Student must be passing at least 4 of 6 classes with or 5 out of 7 without having two failing grades.
  • As a reminder: (two falling grades, Two D’s would equal one failing grade (F) or 4 D’s= 2 F)

Next Steps

  1. Athletic department will send out grades for teams every two weeks via Mi Star
  2. Weekly progress report that student takes to all classes, and then shares with coach and AD.
  1. If progress is not made during this probationary period (One Week) the student will sit out from games or practice until progressing. The week of progress will make them eligible for the next week, not the current week of competition.

Summer School

Students have the opportunity to take summer school to replace failing grades from the school year.  In order for a summer school grade to be counted for Fall eligibility, it must be a grade from a class that was failed in the SPRING semester.  Classes that are repeated over the summer as a result of a failure during the previous FALL semester will not count toward athletic eligibility for Fall sports.

Grading Scale

For the purposes of athletic eligibility, a student must achieve 11 grade points and the grading scale is as follows:

  • A+, A, A-  =  4 points
  • B+, B, B-  =  3 points
  • C+, C, C-  =  2 points
  • D+, D, D-  =  1 point
  • E               =  0 points
